Thomson's Brewery was probably established in the 1810s, and was offered for sale several times after Alexander Thomson was declared bankrupt. In 1832 it was described as having cost upwards of £3,500 but was offered at £1,500 for the brewery, dwelling-house, malt barn and utensils, and £320 for the associated bakehouse and stables.
