Lady Wynd Brewery

Business: Lady Wynd Brewing Company

Location: Cupar

Type: Brewery

The Lady Wynd Brewery may have been the premises used by Thomson and Son in 1837 before the business moved to the newly built Burnside Brewery in 1840. This would fit with the first known occupation of the brewery by the Lady Wynd Brewing Company, a partnership between David Reid and Thomas Greig, in 1840.

After David Reid died in 1848 the brewery passed to his son Alexander, and Thomas Greig carried on the business, as tenant, on his own account. In 1849 the brewery was described as a small establishment for the manufacture of small beer, being two storeys high, and in good repair.

Thomas went into partnership with his son John in about 1862, trading as Thomas Greig and Son until his death in 1876, when brewing ceased.
