John Duncan

John Duncan (1797-1869) was the tenant of the Ferguslie Brewery from at least 1851, when the property containing the brewhouse was offered for sale, to 1857, when the brewhouse was offered to let on its own.

In 1851 he was recorded as employing three men.

Breweries and other buildings

The Ferguslie Brewery was located in a complex of buildings on the corner of East Lane and Broomlands owned by a Mrs Steven, which included a tenement of dwellings, bakehouse, brewhouse, shop, and an extensive garden.

The complex was offered for sale again in 1859 and was acquired by Margaret Rankine.

Although the bakehouse was recorded in 1865, the brewhouse appears to have ceased operations. The tenement still stands but the other buildings have been demolished.
